The speedometer will jump from current speed (less than what I feel Im travelling) down to zero then back. You could try a new one, but given what you're describing, I think you're going to find out it's toast. Problem though was it would seriously decrease the mileage - 10-50% reduction (as expected). if I was going 20, it would show 20, 10, 15, 20, 5, 0, 20, 10, 15, 20.) Clearly, it was missing some proportion of the magnet passes like 1/4, 2/4 or 4/4.
